John is survived by his wife, Jane Mitchell Tucker; son, John B. Tucker III of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Margarete Tucker of Kerrville; grandsons, Casey and Taylor Tucker of Kerrville; granddaughter, Michele Tucker of Dallas; sister, Dorothy Mae Marsh of Houston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, L.C. and Joyce Mitchell of Houston; niece, Dorothy Ann Tapp and husband, Jim Tapp of Houston; nephews, Mark Mitchell of Austin, Linc Mitchell and John Mitchell of Houston; niece, Leah Tuffly and husband, Joe of Pearland; and Aunt Hazel McClain of Victoria.
John served in the Army Air Corps as a gunnery instructor during World War II. He also served in Japan during the Korean War. John retired from Exxon in 1980 after 33 years of service.
John served the community of Baytown in a variety of capacities. In addition to his service through Friends of Lee College and Kiwanis, he served as board chair for the Baytown Museum, American Diabetes Association board member, Lee College Foundation Board, the Hospice Advisory Board, and Texas Exes of Baytown Board. He received several awards from these organizations recognizing his service. He was also honored as the 1991 Baytown Sun Citizen of the Year and the 2001 ExxonMobil Refiner of the Year. He is best known for his volunteer fund-raising efforts for Lee College and as the perennial top apple salesman for the Kiwanis Club of Baytown.
John’s family and friends will remember his ready wit and his endless energy and enthusiasm.
His family will recieve friends on Thursday, September 29, 2005 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Baytown, Texas. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the church.
There will be a private interment service.
