John R. East III, 69, of Baytown, TX, was born June 23, 1943 in Meridian, MS and passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in a Houston, TX hospital. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of the Christian faith.
John was an industry-renowned machinery engineer whose lifelong work was dedicated to improving the reliability of high-speed rotating machines. He worked for Chevron for over 20 yrs and then led the Engineering team at Sulzer for almost 22 yrs. He was an avid fisherman, classic car rebuilder, including his prized 1957 Chevy, and museum-quality model ship builder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Jr. and Katherine East; son, John McLaurin East; granddaughter, Amber Michelle East; and brothers, Chris East and William R. East. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia East of Baytown, TX; son, Michael Wayne East of Fort Lauderdale, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and David Maggard of Pascagoula, MS; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Penny East of Big Point, MS; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth and Jewels Prokop of Hammond, LA and Lisa and Mike Gaddis of Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Megan Harper, Rodney Bruce Harper, and Haleigh Harper; and great grandchildren, Brooklyn Maddox and Brody Dier.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday February 14, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. They will then receive friends Monday, February 18, 2013 beginning at 12 Noon with a funeral to follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Heritage Funeral Home, 9721 Highway 63, Moss Point, MS 39562. Burial will follow at the Jackson County Memorial Park.
