It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Feland Massengale, who left this world on December 16, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on October 10, 1936, in Pawnee, Texas, James lived a life defined by family, faith, hard work, and a passion for the simple joys of life.
James was a proud lifetime member of the Baytown Youth Fair, where he dedicated countless hours to supporting youth and community initiatives. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church, where he built lifelong friendships and shared his love of God. Professionally, "Goob" worked at Ashland Chemical before building a successful career at ExxonMobil, where he eventually retired. His strong work ethic and dedication were evident to all who worked alongside him. Outside of work, James was an avid hunter, finding solace and adventure in the outdoors. He was also a cherished member of "The Breakfast Club," a group of friends who gathered regularly to share stories, laughter, and camaraderie. Above all, James cherished his role as "Poppa," the name lovingly given to him by his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. James leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and dedication that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion will be dearly missed.
