Charles C Porter

Charles C Porter, 84, of Houston, Texas, passed away March 26, 2024. He was born in Texarkana, Texas on August 30, 1939 to Dr. John T. and Frances N. Porter. He was married to Nancy Gressett Porter for 47 years.

Charlie worked in the aerospace industry at NASA Johnson Space Center for over 50 years where he worked on reentry studies for the early space program and later on, the space suit worn by astronauts during extravehicular activities on the Space Shuttle.

He had a passion for University of Texas Longhorn Football and water skiing. He graduated in 1957 from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown and went on to earn his degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas. He skied with Tommy Bartlett Water Ski Shows from 1958 through 1968. During that time he skied overseas in Japan, Guam, Thailand, Burma, the Philippines, Korea and Okinawa in President Eisenhower’s People to People program. He also skied for Bartlett shows at the Seattle World’s Fair (Century 21 Exposition) in 1962, the New York’s World Fair in 1965, and the San Antonio Hemisfair in 1968.

He was preceded in death by; his father Dr. John T. Porter, Sr. and mother Francis Nadine Canuteson Porter of Moody and Baytown, Texas; his brother John T. Porter Jr. of Moody, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Gressett Porter of Houston, Texas; his sons John Henry Porter of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jason Matthew Ashmore of Rockwell, Texas, Adam Lee Porter of Friendswood, Texas, and Rex Austin Porter and his wife Cristina Llorente Porter of Dickinson, Texas. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren – Mason Alexander Porter of Houston, Texas, Reese Noel Ashmore of Rockwall, Texas, Arrie Atyana Slade of Houston, Texas, Addison Rose Slade of Houston, Texas, Alana Penny Porter of Dickinson, Texas, Evan J. Porter of Dickinson, Texas, and Noah Charles Porter of Dickinson, Texas.

A visitation for Charles will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521. A graveside service will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Cedarcrest Cemetery and Monuments, 3010 Ferry Road, Baytown, Texas 77520.
