Charldine Joyce Martin Porter, born on October 6, 1937, in Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, RC "Red" Porter; her cherished son, John David Porter; stepson/nephew Michael “Pete” Garner; and her parents, Claudia Meade Martin and Roy Forrest Martin Jr.
Charldine was a vibrant spirit who filled every room with joy and laughter. Known for her wit and sass, she had a unique ability to find humor in every situation, brightening the lives of those around her. As a young woman, she made history as the first feature twirler for Pearland High School, and was an accomplished horsewoman and Rodeo Queen. After her children left home she enjoyed many years with Chambers County, serving as a clerk for the late Judge Paul Williams.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Charldine found immense joy in her family, whom she lovingly referred to as her "Grandest." She is survived by her children: Robert "Tooter" Porter, Missy Malechek and her husband Lyle, and Melinda "Pooh" Haschke and her husband Paul. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her legacy will live on through them. Those calling her “Omah” are Chase Malechek, Macy Malechek and fiancé Bradyn Athey, Kaly Malechek, Carly Arthur and husband Jacob, and Kinsy Haschke.
An avid reader, Charldine frequented the public library so often that she began initialing "CP" in the corners of her favorite books to keep track of her vast collection. Her love of stories and adventure inspired those around her to embrace life’s possibilities.
Charldine’s indomitable spirit and her ability to find joy in life’s little moments will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held to honor the incredible woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Barbers Hill Education Foundation in her memory.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Navarre Funeral Home Chapel, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, Texas 77521, with the funeral service to begin at 11 AM. Committal will follow at 12:30 PM, at Reeves Cemetery in Old River-Winfree, Texas.
