Bert Van Natter, 88, of Baytown was born May 11, 1922 in South Houston and passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 in a local hospital. He retired from the Exxon Refinery and had been a Deacon in the Baptist church for many years. He was a member of Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church, Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321 and the Cedar Bayou Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #11. He served in the European and North African Theatre during WWII while a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps Night Fighters squadron.
He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years Joyce Beeson Van Natter.
Bert is survived by Aleta Griffith Van Natter, his loving wife of 16 years; his sons and daughters-in-law: Bert and Renee Van Natter of Bertram, Robbie and Donna Van Natter of Cypress, and Philip Van Natter of Pasadena; his daughter and son-in-law: Vickie and Kenneth Conerly of Beach City. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Eric Van Natter and wife Michelle of Georgetown, Aaron Van Natter of Bethel, Ohio, Sarah Conerly and fiancé Jeremy Hart of Seabrook, Jaime Conerly of San Marcos, and Miles Conerly of Houston. He also leaves, to cherish his memory, numerous nieces and nephews.
His family received friends at Navarre Funeral Home Monday, May 31, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services with Masonic rites were held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Alexander Chapel at Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Rd., Baytown, TX 77520 with Rev. Carol Turner and Andrea Metzger officiating. Burial followed at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Masons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Conerly, his grandsons, In addition: John Griffith, James Griffith, Lannie Griffith, and Maynard Bork.
