Shelby Wood Brown, Jr., peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the age of 91, at Christwood Retirement Community. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Brown Offner (Theodore Offner Jr.); grandchildren, Diana B. Durnin, Leslie D. Billingsley, Judson T. Offner (Stacey), Sanders S. Offner (Kristin), Blair O. Ramelli (Phillip); great-grandchildren, Cameron S., Mason B., Emma C., Ali E., and Molly S. Offner, Michael R. and Beau B. Ramelli; and son-in-law, Douglas K. Durnin. Shelby is preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Etta Carpenter Brown; daughter, Mary Katherine Brown Durnin; sister, Katherine Brown Reed; and great-grandson, Jake S. Offner. Shelby was born in Crowley, LA, to the late Marjorie Sinclair Brown and Shelby Wood Brown, Sr., on October 28, 1929. They soon moved to New Orleans, LA, where he grew up. Shelby served as an officer and medic in the Army’s 7th Infantry during the Korean War. After the service, he began a career with Bemis Bag Company. He retired after 39 years as the President of the Paper Division. Shelby and Mary Etta moved to Sandestin, FL, and later to Baton Rouge, LA, to be closer to family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Private funeral services for immediate family will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Visitation will be 9:30AM - 11:00AM.
