Sheila Eleanor Mitchell Feigley

A long-time resident of Baton Rouge, Sheila Mitchell Feigley passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at The Butterfly Wing located in Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 92 years old.

Sheila had a strong love of family. She was a caring mother to three sons and was amazed at how large her family had grown with the additions of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also made regular trips to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to visit her mother, aunts and uncles. In addition, Sheila loved the community of Baton Rouge. She volunteered and served on numerous Boards over the years, receiving many accolades for her efforts.

Born in Quirigua, Guatemala on July 23, 1932. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in 1950; from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1953; and from Louisiana State University with a B.A. in 1986.

Preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Charles Henry and Harriet Agnes Flavin Mitchell; her maternal grandparents: William and Grace Alexander Kidd; her parents: Charles Francis and Carmen Yvonne Kidd Mitchell; her ex-husband: Charles A. Feigley, M.D.; and her brother-in-law: RADM Gary F. Wheatley (ret). Survived by her sister: Maureen Frances Mitchell Wheatley; three sons and their wives: Steven Douglas and Karen Holden Feigley; Keith Howard and Kesha Morgan Feigley, Stuart Kent and Sue Guidry Feigley; Seven grandchildren and spouses: Elizabeth Feigley Rochelle and husband Joe, Peyton Feigley, Paige Feigley Smythe and husband Edwin, Richard Feigley, Rachael Feigley and husband Matt Deslatte, Mitchell Feigley and wife Ashley, Grace Feigley and fiancé Mark Stewart; great grandchildren: Anderson Joseph Rochelle, Harold Burchman Rochelle, Edwin Carr Smythe, Jr., John Holden Smythe, Samuel Peter Douglas Smythe, Owen Paul Feigley, Emmett Lamar Feigley, Beau Tyler Bennett and Azalea Kate Stewart; one niece: Gayle Wheatley; two nephews: Gary and Guy Wheatley; and many cousins.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 17 at 10:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. Fourth St. in Baton Rouge, followed by a church service at 11:00AM conducted by the Rev. Christopher Duncan. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory will take place immediately after the service.
