There are no words to adequately express the sorrow in losing our brother, Sergeant Shawn T. Anderson just 7 days after his 43rd birthday.
He was a 1992 graduate of Baker High School where he enjoyed being a member of the baseball team. He served 3 years in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where he was assigned to Multiple Launch Rocket Systems. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Baton Rouge and began his career with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office. Shawn began his service with the Parish Prison and went on to serve in various divisions including Narcotics, (ESU) Emergency Services Unit, and Maritime Response Team. Shawn transferred to the Canine Division and became a master handler and trainer. It was then that he met his canine partner, Jeager – the beginning of a lifelong friendship. He worked Uniform Patrol serving the Burbank, Scotlandville and Kleinpeter Substations. He was a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s SWAT team for 11 years where he served as a breecher. He was presented with the Life Saving Award in 2010 for saving the life of a woman on Old Mississippi River Bridge. He was also recognized in 2014 for serving more than sixty high-risk warrants in 2013 as a part of SWAT with no injuries or shots fired. In March 2016, he was recognized for delivering a baby on the side of the road.
Shawn was an avid LSU and Dallas Cowboys fan, and he also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. His greatest love was cheering from the sidelines at all of his children’s sporting activities.
He leaves behind his wife Becky Davis Anderson and their two children, Delaney Grace Anderson (14) and Breland Thomas Anderson (11), his mother Carol Anderson Bergeron, brother Jackie Anderson and his wife, Stefanie Anderson; his brother Dustin Martin; his sisters Debbie Anderson, Paula Ledford, Renee Anderson and Kristin Martin; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Joan Davis; his sister-in-law, Tammy Davis Conrad and her husband, Richard T. Conrad III. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends, including very special friends, Les and Pat Rainey.
Shawn is preceded in death by his father, Jack Anderson. The family is requesting visiting hours to be observed on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Healing Place Church, 19202 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA. There will be a private grave-side service at Shiloh Baptist Church in Pinegrove, LA, but there will be a public processional from Healing Place Church.
The Anderson family wishes to express the sincerest thanks to the men and women of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and all other law enforcement agencies. Thank you also to the many families, companies and individuals from across the country who have shown their support during this difficult time.
Greater love have no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13
