Ruby B. Thompson, 86, of Clinton, LA went to be with her Lord peacefully in her sleep on January 26, 2016. She was born on August 11, 1929 to Gertrude and Eugene Butler in Baton Rouge, LA. On May 6, 1950, she married Ernest Thompson, and they shared 63 years of marriage before his passing on January 23, 2012. Together they were blessed with two children. Ruby was valedictorian of Baton Rouge High School and became a proficient accountant working for many years for both her husband’s masonry company and her son’s medical practice. Throughout her life, Ruby was very active in her beloved Temple Baptist Church--teaching little children about our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and also cooking many church suppers and meals for those in need. Her loving, generous, and unselfish spirit, as well as her encouraging attitude will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Ruby is survived by her son, Dr. Gene Thompson; daughter, Kay Swearingen (Sheldon); five grandchildren, John Swearingen (Meghan), Kristi O’Brien (Brian); Aimee Broom (Tom); Stehl Thompson (Katy); Storm Lantrip (Kim); and ten great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings. Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home will host a time of visitation on Friday, January 29 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 8:00-10:00 a.m., with a celebration of her life officiated by Rev. Glen Taylor on Saturday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park.
