Richard Joseph Guidry, Sr.

Richard Joseph Guidry Sr. passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born on Aug. 8, 1943, in Baton Rouge, and was a resident of Zachary. He was a devoted husband to Joanne Guidry for 60 years. Richard retired from the Baton Rouge Police Department as a Major after 32 years of service. Music was a large part of his life and he enjoyed playing the bass guitar, among many other instruments. Family and friends could often hear him playing country music, oldies, and Swamp Pop. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at noon on Thursday, April 20. Burial to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Richard is survived by two sons, Richard Guidry Jr. and wife, Amy, and Kenneth Guidry and wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Candice Guidry, Chester “Chet” Guidry and wife, Ashley, Amanda Jones and husband, Rusty, Melyssa Gann, Shelby Mann and husband, Cody, and Summer Guidry; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Joshua, Ramsey “Landon”, Reagan, Silas, Everett, Hadley, and Harper; a sister, Patricia “Pat” Gill and husband, Jessie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Pratt Guidry; parents, Chester and Agnes Sallier Guidry; two daughters, Penny Guidry Gann and Karen Guidry; son, Dean Guidry; two granddaughters, Tyler and Jessica Guidry; and his dog, Chloe. Pallbearers will be Richard Guidry Jr., Kenneth Guidry, Chester Guidry, Jeff Gill, Chris Davis, and Robert “Blanc” Guidry, with honorary pallbearer Billy Guidry. The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff at The Butterfly Wing-Hospice of Baton Rouge.
