We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Raymond Hidalgo, Jr. He passed away peacefully at the age of 84, with our mother at his side on Thursday, September 29, 2022. He was a native of North Baton Rouge, born on June 6, 1938, in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He was one of ten siblings born to Raymond Hidalgo, Sr. and Eve Phillippe Hidalgo.
He was a wonderful father who was always there when we needed him. He had many friends and an even larger family. He and our mother raised five children Pam, Patti, Penny, Patrick and Paige. Yes! The “Hidalgo P’s” He was known to many as R.J. Our Daddy enjoyed hunting, fishing, LSU and Saints football and working with his hands. Our dad could build anything, fix anything, especially our hearts. He worked many years for SALCO Construction Company. He also was a self-employed contractor and always a hard worker.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years, Joella Andrews Hidalgo; his children, Pam Griffon (Kevin), Patti Fontenot (Eric), Patrick Hidalgo (Brandi), and Paige Perry (Robert); 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Rayburn, Gloria Genusa, Deloris Conlee; and his brothers, Curtis J. Hidalgo (Jean), Frank A. Hidalgo (Kathy) and Billy R. Hidalgo (Debbie).
He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Penny Hidalgo Major and her husband Bobby; his mother-in law, Beatrice Gill Pericone; his parents; sisters, Mary Jane Volz (Robert) and Mary Lee Miletello (Tadon); brother, Joseph “J.P.” Hidalgo; 3 brothers-in-law; 1 niece; and 6 nephews.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 10 am until funeral service at 11:30 am, officiated by Pastor Wayne Austin.
Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Special thanks to Kristin Mizell, Lana Hidalgo for their contribution to his funeral service. Pallbearers will be Patrick and Caston Hidalgo, Brennan and Korben King, Gerard Magruder, Kevin and Aaron Guitrau, Nolan and Cooper Perry, and Keaton Vaughn.
On behalf of our mother, Jo we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Compassus Hospice of McComb, Mississippi and the entire staff especially the extra special care given by D.D., Jackie and Shannon. He lived a long and full life and was very much loved. Our Daddy will be missed dearly.
