Oscar Menees "Mim" Thompson, III died February 25, 2024 at his home in Baton Rouge. Mim was born June 30, 1948, the oldest child of Dr. O.M. Thompson, Jr. and Laura N. Thompson. He was preceded in death by his mother and his brother-in-law, Shelby Harris. Survivors include his three daughters, Margaret Minette Thompson, Elisabeth Thompson Swett and husband Heath, and Elise Thompson and partner Mary Morse; granddaughter, Avery Swett; father, Dr. O.M. Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Christine "Chris" Thompson Harris, Laura "Lolly" Thompson Martin and husband Phil, and Anne Thompson Kurz and husband George; first wife and mother of his children, Margaret "Meg" Long Reed; former wife and enduring companion, Mary Quaid; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mim graduated from Baton Rouge High and Louisiana State University (Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration) and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. Mim started his banking career with Capital Building and Loan which merged and became Capital-Union Savings and Loan, where he served as its President. He later became a certified financial planner, including obtaining his Series 7 license, and joined Wright and Percy Insurance Agency. Mim was active on multiple boards and community organizations, including the City Club of Baton Rouge, Special Olympics, Rotary Club, St. James Episcopal Church, Baton Rouge Assembly, and the Baton Rouge Country Club (President, 2000-2002). Mim was a friend to many and enjoyed a wide variety of friends, including those with whom he played golf and gin, duck hunted, fished, and shot billiards. He particularly enjoyed his friends in Supper Club, which recently celebrated 50 years of camaraderie, fine food, and tall tales. Mim truly lived and loved life to the fullest, cherishing his family and friends along the way. Special thanks are extended to his daughter, Elise, Mary Morse, and Mr. Chris Coleman who cared for Mim at his home and who brought music, joy, love, laughter, and compassion to his last few months. A private graveside service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in St. Francisville. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, 5 to 7 PM, at the BRCC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge, Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville, or a charity of your choice.
