Noel Read

Noel Claire Vavasseur Read, 79, a long-time resident of Central, LA, passed from her earthly life on April 2, 2018. She was born in Port Allen, LA, on December 20, 1938, and was one of ten siblings. After graduation from Port Allen High School, she worked at Kornmeyers Furniture Company from 1957 to 1970. Throughout that time, as a member of a Baton Rouge area bowling league, she met the love of her life, Ronald Read. Married on May 30, 1970, they raised three daughters. Noel was a stay-at-home mom and an active volunteer at school and church. Passionate about baking, she loved to share goodies with all those she knew. A long-standing member of Galilee Baptist Church, she enjoyed being a member of the Ladies’ Sunday School Class. Always giving back, she was proud to be a “Pink Lady” as one of the Lane Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary Staff. Noel is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ronald Norris Read; daughters, Alison Foster and husband, Andrew, Kelly Lewis and husband, Curt and Margaret Read and husband, Michael Margonis; grandchildren, Natalie, Avery, and Haleigh Foster, Kenton “Kent” and Katherine “Katie” Lewis; brothers, Rev. Henry Vavasseur, Edgar Vavasseur and wife, Brenda, and Glyn Vavassuer and wife, Judy; sisters, Ione V. Couvillon, and Jeanne V. Brignac and husband, Pierre “Sonny”; and numerous nieces and nephews. Waiting to welcome her were her parents, David Avery and Pauline Laurent Vavasseur; brothers, Alfred Joseph “A.J.”, Rev. David “Stormy” Avery Vavasseur, and Phillip Eugene Vavasseur; sister, Marie Adele Vavasseur; aunt, Clothilde Vavasseur; and brother-in-law, Ronald J. Couvillon. Our grateful thanks to the doctors, nurses, caregivers and staff at Lane Memorial Nursing Home and Hospital for their compassionate care and support shown to Noel. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, April 5, 2018, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Visitation will resume at Greenoaks on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 9:00AM until the time of funeral service at 12:00PM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
