Born at home in Gonzales on January 6, 1932 and died in Gonzales on January 24, 2022, Murphy was 90 and a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Jeanette Savoy Gautreau; parents, Henry and Adele Duplessis Gautreau; grandsons, James and Joseph Ducote; great-grandson, Justin Robinson; siblings, Willie, Lowell, Mae, and Maudry; and three infant sisters. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Murphy is survived by daughters, Kathy G. (Johnny) Robinson, Karen G. (Tony) Polito and Karla G. (David) Ducote; son, Murphy “Packy” John (Adair) Gautreau, Jr.; sister, Regina G. Bourgeois; grandchildren, Jeremy (Christen) Robinson, Jessie (Kaci) Robinson, Jodi (Justin) Devore, Paul and Chad (Alicia) Polito, Aimee Polito (Matt), Jenifer (Cory) Leonard, Janene (Drew) Hebert, Jordan (Emily) Ducote, Emily Richard (Lloyd), and Owen Richard (Alexa); great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jenna and Jacob Robinson, Wesley and Lathan Robinson, Jase, Tucker and Adelyn Devore, Alexis and Scarlet Gray, Jackson and Abigail Polito, Brody LeBourgeois, Jameson Leonard, Easton Hebert, and Evan Ducote. A resident of St. Amant, Murphy was a member and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a former Auxiliary Volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital and a retired Gulf States Utility (Entergy) supervisor. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am celebrated by Father Jon Koehler. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. A reception will follow in the Church Activity Center. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
