Melvin Dale Mayes, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on January 29, 2021 at the age of 69. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ione Aline Pearce Mayes, and brothers Kenneth, Eugene, and Jerry. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Ann Sisson Mayes, daughters Carolyn and Madeline Mayes, extended family, and beloved friends.
Dale was a free thinker who was interested in people and how things worked. He liked to talk slowly, and could talk to anyone. He loved his family and his friends. He loved fishing, drinking, fixing stuff, and being outdoors. His career as a mechanical engineer working in research and development took him from Dow Chemical to his own projects here, to Australia and then home again. A survivor of childhood and lifelong health challenges, Dale could be stubborn or determined, but savored life and did not take his time for granted. In his retirement, Dale and Lynne grew lots of tomatoes, satsumas, wildflowers and weeds.
A graveside service will be at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Greenoaks Memorial Park-9595 Florida Blvd Baton Rouge, La 70815.
