She was a homemaker, a native of Ethel and a resident of Baton Rouge. Mattie died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 96. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. until religious service in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. T.W. Terral. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose E. Ballard. Mattie is survived by her daughters, Patricia Efferson and husband Stan, and Jan King and husband Michael; grandchildren, Charles Efferson and wife Jennifer, Kim Meyers, Amber Langlois and husband Jacques, Sean King and fiancée Trish Scott, Jennifer Welch and husband Nathan, Stephanie King and fiancé Jason Boudreaux; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Meyers, Madelyn Meyers, Carolyn Efferson, Asa Langlois, Evan Welch and Jacob Welch. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles R. and Willie Ballow Sanders; brother, Everett Sanders; sisters, Mary Sanders and Miriam Guilbeau; and a great-grandchild, Jocelyn King.
