Born in Natalbany, LA, on November 7, 1934, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Mary Vivian “Sister” S. Rogillio passed peacefully at home on December 19, 2022. Mary was a dedicated wife to her beloved husband of 63 years who served 21 years with the USAF as a pilot. Mary was a member of the AFOSC at their assigned bases in the Philippines and Japan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Rogillio; daughter, Melinda (Mendy) Owens; and parents, Eugene Earl Settoon and Eva Lorraine Wilkins Settoon. Mary is survived by her daughter, Teri Zalenski and her husband Keith of McKinney, TX; son, David Rogillio and Virginia of Ponchatoula, LA; son-in-law, David Owens of Niceville, FL; 8 grandchildren, Malcolm Walker III, ret. USMC GySgt Marcus Walker, Matthew Walker (Odalis), Misty Frantz (Jimmy), Rebecca Meliet (Jared), Lisa Ramsey (Thomas), Zoe Zalenski and Phoebe Zalenski. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Eugene Settoon (Debbie) of Kenner, LA; sisters, Patsy Massimini of Metairie, LA, and Lois Ann Frazier (Lance) of Denham Springs, LA; and brother-in-law Carlyle Rogillio (Sylvia) of Tunica, LA. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend loved by everyone. Mary greatly enjoyed family vacations on the beaches of Destin, FL. Notorious for her seafood gumbo, lemon cake, and mock taco, her constant turn-style of visitors were always greeted with open arms followed by “Can I get you something to eat”. Mary was never without her cup of coffee brewed exactly to preference by her infamous percolator coffee maker kept operational for over thirty years with various replacement parts sourced from commissaries, yard sales, and eBay transactions. Mary would kick back watching a prerecorded episode of The Bold and the Beautiful and on occasion was known to enjoy a bloody Mary, mimosa, or pony-size Miller Lite (in the bottle). She dedicated a large portion of her life to education; graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University with a BS in Home Economics, and thereafter teaching in the Louisiana public school system, notably Valley Park Alternative School and Sherwood Junior High since 1980. In addition to contributing to the lives of her students, Mary’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life answering to all of Grandma Mary, G Mary, and GG. The family greatly appreciates the love and care received by Hospice of Baton Rouge throughout her battle with cancer. If you prefer, in lieu of flowers, a donation would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
