Our beloved sister, mother, grandmother and wife left us to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at the home of her sister. Mary Anne passed away after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. She will always be our hero as she fought the long battle with such courage, strength and dignity. Her concern was never for herself, but for the loved ones she was leaving behind. Mary Anne was a native of Vicksburg, Miss., and a resident of Pioneer. She was a retired fitness instructor. She is survived by her husband, R.L. Hooper, of Pioneer; son, Joey Poché, of Pioneer; grandchildren, Katelynn and Kaden Poché, both of Pioneer; two sisters and their husbands, Lynda and Raymond Vince and Davie and Bill Ashby, all of Baton Rouge; several nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, James D. Kennedy Jr. and Anne Jones Kennedy. Memorial visitation will be held at St. George Catholic Church, 7880 St. George Drive, on Saturday, Jan. 8, from noon until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. Mike Schatzle. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Vince, Bill Ashby, David Stogner, Chris Gauthier, Daniel Gauthier and Kaden Poché. A special thank you to all of Mary Anne's doctors and especially her Hospice caregivers, Neely, Paulette and Katina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Amedisys Hospice of Baton Rouge, 13702 Coursey Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70817 or The American Cancer Society .
