"Gunnery Sgt. Lowell E. Arnold, USMC (Retired) was born in Los Angeles, CA on January 14, 1926 and passed away on April 29, 2019 in Baton Rouge, LA at the age of 93. Lowell graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943. He became of Montford Point Marine in 1944 and landed on Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945. He is a veteran of World War II, Korea, and received the Purple Heart in Vietnam. Lowell was the first task force to enter Sasebo, Japan, at the end of World War II. He had two tours of duty in Korea, 1951 and 1954 and two tours of duty in Vietnam, 1965 and 1968. He received a Vietnam Service Medal with two stars. His others include the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal with seven stars, Combat Action Ribbon with 4th Award, President Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, United Nation Medal, Korean PUC, EOD Badge, and many other Medals and Badges. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1969, he obtained employment with the Pasadena Unified School District as a Warehouse Manager, where he retired in 1989 with 20 years of service. His first membership with the NAACP was in 1944 in North Carolina. He became of NAACP Golden Heritage Member with the Pasadena Branch in 1981, American Legion Life Membership Post 252, Montford Point Marines Life Membership, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Life Member Post 2122 and Semper Fi Association Los Angeles Chapter. He leaves to mourn his wife, Wendy A. Arnold, their daughter, Leslie A. Arnold, son, Vincent Arnold, Grandson, Sean Arnold, Granddaughters, Carmen and Sydney Arnold, and his first wife, Gloria W. Arnold. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa A. Arnold.
