Louis G. Smith passed away at home on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the age of 91. He was a native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, La. and a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church since 1964. He was a graduate of University High, LSU, and Banking School of the South. Louis started his banking career in 1950 at Fidelity National Bank. After serving in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he resumed his banking career and joined Capital Bank and Trust Company in 1956. He was promoted throughout his 35-year banking career ultimately serving as Senior Executive Vice President of Capital Bank and Trust Company and President of Capbanc Computer Corporation. He was also a member of Rotary Club of Baton Rouge. Louis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Darlene Palmer Smith; son, Gary L. Smith and wife, Angel; daughter, Suzanne M. Smith; granddaughter, Garland; grandson, Brandt; nephews, Kurt and Lonnie; nieces, Kris and Tammeryn; sister-in-law, Rosemary; and niece-in-law, Ann. Louis is preceded in death by his son, Gregory G. Smith; parents, Edwin A., Sr. and Bianca Smith; brother, Edwin A., Jr. (Jo Margaret); sisters, Faye Sue (Al) and Agnes (Melvin); nephew, Kyle; and niece, Sue. The family thanks the caregivers at Baton Rouge General Home Health and Heart of Hospice for the tender care they provided to Louis. The family held a private burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
