Lavern Rylee was born in Leaksville, MS, on April 27, 1939, to Alonzo Burl and Addie Ree Rylee. As a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Lavern passed away on April 20, 2024, a week shy of his 85th birthday. He was a pressman for 50 years and retired from Bourque Printing, and he also donated his time to train the residents in Carville’s leprosy hospital to operate their printing press. Outside of work, Lavern was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting his bow in competitions. Lavern held a strong faith in God which he demonstrated in every aspect of his life, but especially in how he loved and raised his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Long (Dennis) and Kelli Norwood (Lane); son-in-law, Mike Planchard; sister, Mary Fabre (Jerry); mother-in-law, Betty Baughman; brother-in-law, David Baughman; grandchildren, Brian Latimer, Rebecca Liles, Mary Auten, Ragan Thornton, and Rylee Norwood; 7 great grandchildren; beloved friends, Larry and Sandy Hidalgo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Peggy Rylee; father-in-law, Versie Baughman; daughter, Aimee Planchard; brothers, AB Rylee Jr, Robert Bill Rylee, Jerald Rylee, and Earl Rylee; sister, Hazel White; and sister-in-law, Cindy Baughman.
A graveside service for Lavern will be held on Saturday, August 3, at 10 am at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lavern’s name to the American Cancer Society.
