Julie Alva Stander

Julie Alva Stander, 71, passed away on August 25, 2013 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Leonard Herbert Stander and Alice Regan Stander. She is survived by two sisters, Lynn Stander Morgan and husband Dr. Joe Almond Morgan, and Alice Jo Stander Durant, three nieces, Julie Morgan Hubbell and husband Michael Roy "Mickey" Hubbell, Andrea Lynn Tomasovsky, and Alice Carey "Abby" Jones, one nephew, David Scott Morgan, three grandnieces, Regan Lynn Hubbell, Janie Quin Morgan, and Julianne Lynn Morgan, and four grandnephews, Michael Morgan Hubbell, Joseph Scott Morgan, Matthew Roy Hubbell, and James Andrew Baldwin. Julie was born on July 29, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University with a degree in fine arts. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, American Society of Interior Designers, and St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. Early in her professional career, she worked for Louisiana State University Medical School as a medical artist for over ten years and later became licensed as a medical illustrator. She was self-employed as a freelance medical artist in Baton Rouge. She moved to Houston, Texas and worked as a licensed interior design professional for over thirty years. She also owned and managed her own interior design shop, Julie Stander Fine Linens and Antiques in Houston, Texas. Her refined aesthetic was well-respected in the design industry from New Orleans to Houston, and her work has been featured in multiple publications, including Brunschwig&Fils: Up Close. Julie devoted herself to her family, always making herself available to counsel them or to laugh with them-often both at once. Her family and her French Poodle, Sybil, will miss her company dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. Joseph Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Visitation will be at St. James Episcopal Church, 205 North 4th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, August 31 from 1:00 pm until Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North St., Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
