A retired plumber and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Sherwood Manor. He was 95 and a native of Sunshine. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart Medal recipient. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, July 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. led by Monsignor Gassler, 4th Degree Honor Guard. Visiting at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Monday, July 11, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Michael Collins. Burial with military honors will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Joe is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph F. and Patricia B. Catanzaro; granddaughter, Amanda Catanzaro McNabb and her husband, Perry; grandson, Douglas P. Catanzaro and his wife, Christi; two great-grandsons, Andrew M. and Evan P. McNabb; great-granddaughter, Isabella M. Catanzaro; three sisters, Lena C. Canella, Jennie C. Valenti and Katie C. Scalise; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve M. Catanzaro, of Beaumont, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gentile Catanzaro; three brothers, Phillip F. Catanzaro, Louis P. Catanzaro and Anthony A. Catanzaro; and two sisters, Felicie C. Panepinto and Mary C. Boeta. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 3298, Msgr. Gassler Assembly 319, and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 198. Joe was a former member and sacristan at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
