For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17. John "Johnny" Farrel Cooper Sr. was born on August 8, 1939 in Kenwood, Arkansas to the late John and Daisy Cooper. His parents were a very loving and caring family and raised him as a Christian. Johnny was a resident of Baton Rouge, and passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in his home at the age of 79. He moved to Baton Rouge in 1957 where he met the love of his life, Elsie Carbo. When he married into the Carbo family, he always felt welcomed and enjoyed his journey through life with them. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development from 1958 to his retirement in 1989. Then went on to work for Boh Bros. Construction until he once again retired in 2006. He made great friends throughout his work life, enjoying the work and loving the people. Johnny was a member of Stevendale Baptist Church. Although he never claimed the mantle of hero, it's hard to think of any other word to describe the impact he had on his family and others. Johnny loved his family, fishing with his best friend Carl Crawford, classical music and watching sports. He never missed a sporting or school event where his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating. He was an admirable man and loved by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; children Renee and husband Gray Warrington, Darla and husband Rick Harvey; grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as "Poppa," Jason Cooper and wife Amanda, Micah Fife, Tyler Fife and wife Jodie, Shaun Cooper, Eric Gullett and wife Megan, Dylan Bienvenu, Loren Gullett and fiancé Nick Pirini, Julia Gullett, Nicole, Joshua and Lauren Harvey; great-grandchildren Brennan Cooper, Grace, Gavin, and Grant Cooper, Kierstyn, Blakely, and Calum Fife, Dax Pirini, Dawson Harvey, and soon expected Cillian Gullett; brother, Danny Cooper and wife Toni; brother-in-law Ray Charnley; sister-in-law Sunny Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Daisy Cooper; sisters Patsy Teaford and husband Ed, Nell Thigpen and husband Clint, Edna Goldman and husband Buddy, and Bernice Charnley; brothers Charles Cooper and wife Martha, and Eugene Cooper; son John Farrel Cooper Jr.; grandson John Michael Cooper; and father and mother-in-law Joseph and Laurina Carbo. Wood, Nurse Mike at Pennington Cancer Center, Dr. Hines, the doctors, nurses and staff at Baton Rouge General Hospital, and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
