Joan Johnson Roberts “Granny” of Baton Rouge, LA, age 89, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Joan J. Roberts was born on September 11, 1934, to the late Dennis Johnson and Carrie Juneau Johnson, in Moreauville, LA. After Joan graduated from St Francisville High School, she then earned a degree from Mercy School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA, and graduated as a Registered Nurse. After graduation, she took care of patients and worked in the nursing profession for many years. She truly had a passion of taking care of people. Shortly after nursing school, Joan met the love of her life, Lynn Charles Roberts, and went on to rear two children. Joan loved watching her kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren grow up and prosper in life. She loved the Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of Mercy where she was known as “The Hat Lady”. Joan devoted much of her time being a part of Catholic Daughters Court St. Louis #1816, Alter Society, St. Vincent De Paul, Volunteer at Hospice of Baton Rouge and so much more. Joan is survived by her daughter, Carrie Matherne (Michael); son, Garth Roberts (Stephanie); grandchildren, Logan Lyons (Lauren), Nicholas Lyons, Michaela Matherne, Christopher Roberts, Grant Roberts, Lexi Kane (Tim); great-grandchildren, Layla Lyons, Charleigh Phillips, Chandler Phillips, and Jude Kane; and a host of other loving family members. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Charles Roberts; parents, Dennis and Carrie Johnson; brothers, Stephen and James Johnson; and cousin, Beryl Smith. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 4pm until 6pm, with the rosary beginning at 6pm. Visitation will resume at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 9am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
