A native of Big Stone Gap, Va., she had music in her veins and a deep passion for teaching it. Jo Ann taught piano, organ, and guitar for over 40 years to the young and old alike. She helped many people learn to express and believe in themselves through her musical lessons, always encouraging her students. Jo Ann particularly loved playing for her church and spreading the love of God with music. Outside of music, she also held a love for summer activities like swimming, camping, and adventures in nature. She took advantage of any opportunity to laugh and share memories, such as the antics of bears they encountered in the Great Smokey Mountains. Jo Ann treasured trips back home to Big Stone Gap and seeing the beautiful faces of her family and friends again, getting caught up on their lives, and holding their babies. As a longstanding member of Florida Baptist Church, she held much love and friendship among her church family. She not only shared the joy of music with them, but she also shared many adventures and classes of fellowship. She felt blessed to share the spirit of God with the women in her widows’ group.
