Jenny was a graduate of Baker High School, class of 1965. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook, an avid reader and LOVED doing crossword puzzles. She was a caregiver for family, a homemaker and very active in her kid’s lives. Her laughter was infectious and she would light up any room she entered. Jenny never met a stranger and she will be missed by all that had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her.
Jenny is survived by her daughter, Rachael Hoolahan and her beloved son-in-law, Michael, that she lovingly referred to as “Mikey”; grandchildren, Peyton, Andrew, Rebecca, Abbey (Matt), Paige, Blair (Andrew) and Gabby (William); great-grandchildren, Gibson and Willow; brother, Raymond Hiatt (Patti); brother-in-law, Barrett Root (Sarah); a very special sister-in-law, Suzanne Davison; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
Jenny is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Arthur Gibson Root, III; children, Andrew Glassford Root, Jay Root and Arthur “A.G.” Gibson Root, IV; parents, Herman Hiatt and Wilma Hiatt Richburg; and sisters, Cindy Jaglowski and Infant Penny Hiatt.
The family would like to extend many thanks to The Guest House nursing home where mom resided for the last seven years. There were so many staff members that truly loved her and took care of her. Also, a big thank you to Life Source Hospice who assisted her in the final months of her life.
Visitation will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, in Pope Hall from 10AM until the time of the memorial services at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Luke's Episocal Church.
