Heartfelt prayers going out for Dick's family and friends. May we all treasure those good memories of Dick. From first grade on, Dick was caring, enthusiastic, and competitive in both sports and academia. I remember his mom reporting to my mom that Dick had read every volume of the World Book Encyclopedia the summer between 4th and 5th grades. Remember him and another classmate, Mary Lynn Rouse, competing riding their Tennessee Walking Horses. Lots of wonderful memories.

To Laura and family. Thank you for sharing your father with us. He helped so many people. He did it with a whisper. He believed in his fellow man and i was blessed  to have known him. 

We spoke about six weeks ago. 

May the good Lord give you strength, understanding and comfort during your time of bereavement.

This picture of Richard is from a Renaissance fencing tournament where the consort of the winner of the tournament is named the Forest Maiden.  His consort for the tournament was another SCA member named Barbara.  The token he gave her was a small turned dish of several woods and she presented him with a small grapevine wreath that she made.  It is normal practice for non-romantic partners to present tokens to each other at tournaments.  acquaintances you

Richard was a joy to be around.  He cared about everyone and he was quick with a smile and a joke.  I cannot believe that he is gone.  That I won't share an event with him.  Richard, you are deeply, deeply missed.

When Richard first entered my fencing school several years ago asking for lessons I honestly didn't know if it would work. To date he is the oldest beginner student I have ever had and also one of the most dedicated. His smile and charm will be sorely missed. He was always willing to go out of his way to help others enjoy this new found hobby and he trained hard to make himself a difficult fight. We will miss you Richard you will always be an inspiration to me that age is just a number.

He will truly be missed
