Hazel Manuel Aucoin was born one of 12 children in Mamou, LA on March 15, 1926 to Adeuse and Eve (Blanchard) Manuel. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2013. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings, and her daughter, Debra Joy Davis. She left behind her husband of 68 years, Calvin Joseph Aucoin; one remaining sister, Terry Manuel Guillory; daughters and their husbands, Sarah and Jim Wilde, Suarez and Tom Schlaf; son-in-law, Kent Davis; grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua and Beth Davis, Ryan and Amanda Davis, Jerry (Trey) Denton III, Jessica and Mark Dillard, Allison and Andrew Tankersley, and Jeffery Wilde; and great-grandchildren, Joy Davis, Austin, Alyssa, Alexis and Andrew McCloskey, Rhys and Gauge Tankersley. Hazel and Calvin were married shortly after he returned from the World War II. She was by his side as he used his military benefits to attend Minnesota Bible College, served selflessly and effectively with him as he ministered in many churches across the country and as a beloved teacher. She was an excellent seamstress creating elegant wedding gowns for her three daughters and exquisite clothes for her grandchildren. As a Couture, she owned her own seamstress shop designing garments including Mardi Gras costumes, bridal gowns and finely detailed children’s clothing. In their first ministry in Wyoming, she supported Calvin’s ministry by sewing spectacular cowboy shirts. She also worked as a surgical assistant at Shriner’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home Chapel in Baton Rouge Saturday, May 18, 2013 beginning at 8:30am until the Funeral Service at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Josh Davis, Trey Denton, Ryan Davis, Jeff Wilde, Jerry Denton Jr. and Danny Carleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hazel’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
