George W. Hamilton, born January 11, 1924, went to be with His Lord on October 15, 2024. He was born in Cash, Arkansas to William Robert and Clara Collins Hamilton along with his twin brother, JD Hamilton. His long life included a distinguished service in the United States Army, where he served as a marksman/forward observer in Okinawa and the Philippines during WWII. He was a decorated veteran, earning two bronze stars, among other awards. After he completed his service, he played professional baseball until 1949 and was a player/manager for the Baton Rouge Rebels semi pro team. In 1949 he opened his first business in Baton Rouge called Hamilton’s Body Shop. Over the years, he began to specialize in repairing heavy duty trucks, tanks and trailers. He bought Baton Rouge White Truck Sales in 1970, later to become Baton Rouge Truck Center, where he retired shortly after turning 100 years old.
Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, Oct. 18, 2024. Visitation will resume at 9:00 am Saturday. Services will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Albany, LA.
He is survived by four loving children, Carolyn Hamilton Lee (Mike), Robert Frank Hamilton (Angelina), Patti Hamilton Nohra, Edward Warren Hamilton (Leslie); six grandchildren; Cindy Hooper (Brad), Julie Hamilton, Jonathan (Cayce) Hamilton, Michael Hamilton, Kelly Bordelon (Ron), Jodi Nohra; six great grandchildren; Brandon and Lauren Hooper, Kiley Taylor, Beckham and Berkley Bordelon, and Micah Hamilton. Also survived by his sister- in -law, Mildred Hamilton of Hopkinsville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Alice Varga Hamilton; parents: William and Clara Hamilton, brothers: Ed, Luke, Brody and Coleman, and twin brother JD Hamilton; sisters: Lucille and Stella; his beloved son, Stanley Ray Hamilton, and grandson Christopher Michael Lee.
Pallbearers will be his loyal work family: Tim Wade, Clyde Waldrop, Ricky Coupel, Thomas Kennedy, Zaine Mertink, Kris Blanchard, Arthur Grandpre, Nahum Guerrero, Shedrick Browder, Drake Davis and Dusty Fitzmorris.
