Fred was a graduate of Catholic High School and Southeastern Louisiana University, earning a Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in French. After graduation, he attended a Catholic seminary in Chicago, Illinois and received a Master of Divinity from the Catholic Theological Union. Fred followed his passion for helping others to New Orleans where he worked in the cancer ward at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center, receiving a certification in Clinical Pastoral Education.
Fred returned to Baton Rouge, where he worked for Union National Life Insurance Company and later for Gerry Lane Buick GMC for more than twenty years. He earned recognition as a top salesman on numerous occasions. In addition to his work, Fred was an avid supporter and fan of movies, theater, and music. He served as the past president of the Baton Rouge Opera and was a former board member of the Baton Rouge Symphony.
Fred Jones Greer III is survived by his sisters Jacqueline Bourgeois (Mike), Joyce Perez (Al), and Phyllis Tambs (Lew-deceased), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Jones Greer, Jr. and Phyllis Rosiere Greer.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10 a.m. followed by a prayer service at the St. Joseph’s Academy Chapel located at 3080 Kleinert Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The burial service will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Baton Rouge Symphony in Fred’s name.
