It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Evelyn McKinley Heck. She passed peacefully on Sunday morning, February 7, 2021, in Plano, Texas. Evelyn was born in Bradenton, Florida to Oscar and Evelyn McKinley on December 28, 1927. She graduated from Bradenton High School in 1945 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1949 from University of Florida. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for the Department of Architecture, where she met her future husband, Bob. They married in 1952, settled in Baton Rouge, and raised three children.
Evelyn’s professional career included many rewarding years working on the LSU campus. She started as secretary for the Catholic Student Center, moved to a position as secretary to the Dean of Arts and Sciences, and finally, as Business Manager for The Southern Review. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Cathedral and served on numerous committees, including Social Concerns, Outreach Center, and Food Pantry, and was honored with the Bishop’s Award in 2006.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Robert W Heck; her mother, Susan Evelyn McKinley; her father, Oscar Bowden McKinley; her son, Paul Anthony Heck, and her grandson, Paul Anthony (Tony) Heck. She is survived by her son, Robert Gregory Heck (Keisha) of Kemah, TX; her daughter, Catherine H. McGough (Mark) of Plano, TX; her grandchildren, Margaret Heck, Douglas Heck, David Jarrell, Brad Jarrell, Michael McGough, Rebecca McGough, and Emily McGough; two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Anne Clayton and Sarah Daly, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family extends our gracious thanks to Anthology of Plano Assisted Living, The Auberge at Plano Memory Care, VNA Hospice, and our mother's caring sitters. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, 412 North St, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA.
