Dr. Daniel James Richardson

Dr. Daniel (Danny) James Richardson, age 72, died Sunday, May 28, 2023 while on vacation with his wife Bonnie in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Danny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, dentist and friend. He was born March 3, 1951, and was a graduate of Catholic High School ('69), LSU (73), ULM School of Pharmacy (75) and LSU School of Dentistry ('80).

Danny opened his dental practice in Lutcher, Louisiana in 1981 and was still practicing at the time of his death. He continued to enhance his dental skills and knowledge through continuing education utilizing many new technologies, procedures and equipment which enhanced his successful practice. Danny was a kind and gentle dentist and his patients loved him. He was surrounded by a wonderful staff who complemented his work ethic and made it a great place to work.

Danny was a man of countless talents. He could build, repair, and mend anything. He cooked jambalaya, that was second to none, for family and friends who yearly came to the Christmas Eve bonfires. He was a gentleman farmer who loved to be on his tractor and to be in his garden planting tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables. Danny and Bonnie enjoyed traveling around the United States, Europe and the Holy Land. They enjoyed attending LSU Football, Ladies Basketball and Baseball games as well as CHS Football games. When he could, Danny and his friend, Pat Tessier, would go fishing. He enjoyed the relaxation associated with being on the water in his boat. Danny was a devout Catholic who attended Mass during the week at Our Lady of Mercy (OLOM) Catholic church. He loved his Catholic upbringing and practiced it faithfully. Danny and Bonnie met at OLOM 6:00 am Mass and later married there. They were on their way to Mass when he fell ill.

They regularly hosted a weekly family dinner on Sunday evenings for all children and grandchildren who were available. He thoroughly enjoyed watching all of them swing on the swing set that he built for them, play sports in the front yard or swim in the pool before dinner. Danny is survived by Bonnie Baker Richardson, his wife of 23 years; son Ethan Richardson (Kate, children Lena and Eric); daughter Melissa Barkemeyer (Carl, children Jack, Hugo, and Walter); son Taylor Richardson and former wife Rebecca Johnson Richardson. His step children are Benjamin Brooks (Haley, children Vincent, Victoria and Virginia); Rebecca Tucker (Alex, children Christian and Hayes) and Baker Brooks (Sarah, children Baker Jr., Josephine and Elizabeth). Danny is also survived by his siblings Katheleen (Mark) Hubbs, Margaret Sanz, Douglas (Cathi) Richardson and Rose (Sidney) DeRouen. Danny is preceded in death by his parents Murphy Ethan and Rosa Mae Poche Richardson and brother and wife Michael and Nancy Richardson.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Danny's life will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, La. 70806 on June 6, 2023 with visitation starting at 9:00 am and Mass to begin at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Danny's honor can be made to Catholic High School or to a favorite charity.
