Dorothy Rae Britt, age 91,of Baton Rouge, LA, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 10, 2022. She was born on September 11, 1930 to Curtis James Thornton and Vada Murray Thornton in Meadville, MS
Dorothy Rae loved God and sought to serve and honor Him her entire life. She was a life long Southern Baptist and a member of Florida Blvd Baptist Church in Baton Rouge for 50 years and more recently attended Metairie Baptist Church. She was a founding member of the Widows Ministry at Florida Blvd Baptist Church which she started soon after her husband passed away. She was passionate about providing a ministry to support women who had lost their husbands. Grief counseling, providing meals and emotional support and providing activities were just some of the aspects of this much needed and appreciated ministry.
Dorothy Rae was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leeman Britt, her three sons, Denmon Britt, Wendall Calvin Britt and Infant son, her parents Curtis and Vada Thornton, and her brothers, Julius Thornton and Bobby Joe Thornton. She is survived by her son Terry Britt and daughter Genia Britt, two granddaughters, Charlotte Teel and Claire Britt, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
