Donald Oakley Hutchinson, 92, of Baton Rouge, LA died on January 31 after a brief illness. He was born in Massillon, Ohio on November 8, 1929. His family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he attended Georgia Tech and received a degree in Chemical Engineering. While in Atlanta, he met and married the love of his life, Bonnie Jean MacKenzie. After marriage, they moved to Baton Rouge, where he worked for Ethyl Corporation until he retired in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bonnie Hutchinson; children, Karen Hutchinson Collins (Gregory) and Kenneth Martin Hutchinson (Mary). He had 3 granddaughters, Cheryl Hutchinson Collins, Bonnie Collins Dial (Robert), and Amelia Collins Russell (Justin). He is survived by great-grandchildren Brady, Reed, Amelia, Anna, and Mary. He is also survived by his brother Douglas Hutchinson. He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick Hynds Hutchinson and Anna Veronica Oakley Hutchinson. He was also predeceased by his siblings Patrick, Lawrence, Robert, and Nancy. Donald was a loving man who was devoted to his family. He was active in his church, serving on the St Thomas More parish council. When Ken was in Boy Scouts, he became the Scout Leader. He loved to fish and made a twice yearly trip to Golden Meadow in addition to other excursions. He and Bonnie traveled extensively and included their family in many of their excursions. They spent many days at Pensacola Beach, enjoying their condo, the beaches, the fishing, and the sunsets. Don was president of their condo HOA for several years. After retiring from Ethyl Corporation, he taught Chemical Engineering at LSU and was a favorite with his students. He was a life-long learner who attended outreach programs at LSU. During retirement he began to paint and leaves many paintings for his family to enjoy. He had a Tuesday morning golf group and played regularly. He and Bonnie were members of the Foster Drive YMCA and were there daily for many years. He gave generously of his time and energy and was never too busy to help friends and family. He will be greatly missed. Visitation with family will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Greenoaks Funeral Home with service to follow at 12 noon.
