Charles Ray "Buddy" Bergeron, born August 7, 1927, passed away in a boating accident on March 20, 2014 at the age of 86. He was a native of Opelousas, LA., and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He was a beloved husband, father and friend to many; he will be greatly missed. He was a man of remarkable ability. He served in the Navy following WWII. He retired from Ethyl Corp in Baton Rouge after 37 years as a chemical engineer. He held many patents and was responsible for developing a process for growing silicon crystals for computers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a teller of tall tales. He never knew a stranger and was an excellent cook. He was preceded in death by parents Hervin & Elise Bergeron, sons Anthony Ray & Paul Astor. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Lillian Mae (Doucet) of Opelousas; son Dr. Robert Charles and daughter in law Deanna of Denison, TX; daughter Janet Elizabeth Brumfield and son in law David Brumfield of Baton Rouge; grandchildren Sarah & Dustin Bergeron, Melissa Barker and husband Larry, and Lauren Waldrop; great-grandson Nathaniel Barker; brothers Lyle Bergeron, Lanny Bergeron and sisters Elise Olsen and Deretta Manuel. Granddaughter Melissa said, "Mom, he was trying to take his boat to heaven."
