Carol Ann Melancon Folse passed away peacefully in her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on December 10, 2021, at the age of 86 with her husband and son at her side and surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 5, 1935, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, Carol was a lifelong Louisiana resident. She was a proud alumnus of Ascension Catholic High School where she was actively involved and always stayed connected to classmates into adult life planning many reunions and social gatherings.
She met the love of her life and husband of 66 years, Dexter Joseph Folse at 8 years old, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Theirs was truly a shining example of a loving, enduring, Christian marriage. After marrying in 1955, Carol and Dexter moved to Baton Rouge and Prairieville where they raised their sons, Jeffrey Joseph Folse and Scott Joseph Folse. In early adulthood Carol was a Kindergarten teacher for many years and loved all of her “babies”, staying connected to many of them throughout their lives. After retiring from teaching, Carol was the founding President of Louisiana Air Systems, Inc., now a third-generation mechanical contractor carrying out her mission of excellence in service. She was an active member and servant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and it was her joy to be a Sacristan and Eucharistic minister. Carol never met a stranger and quickly adopted many as honorary “sons, daughters and grandchildren.” Not only did Carol devote her life to loving and caring for her family and friends, she was always active in her community and had a large circle of friends. She and Dexter especially loved dancing and attending Mardi Gras festivities.
Carol’s vibrant and vivacious spirit will be sorely missed but lives on in her surviving children and grandchildren who will carry on her love of cooking, gardening, history and family. Carol was a detailed historian and has left a legacy of stories, pictures and memoranda to be enjoyed by her children, grandchildren and future generations to come.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Dexter Joseph Folse; son, Jeffrey Joseph Folse and wife Regina Bennett Folse; Julie Rountree Folse, widow of son Scott Joseph Folse; grandchildren Brandi Folse Slade and husband Bryan Slade, Bradley Joseph Folse and wife Johnette Strickland Folse, Laura Caroline Folse, Kristina Folse Sevin and husband John Paul Sevin, Scott Rountree Folse, Brennan Dexter Folse; great-grandchildren Diana Marie Slade, Danielle Claire Slade, Olivia Anne Slade, John Douglas Sevin, Lilliana Elaine Sevin, Henry Joseph Folse and Dean Louis Folse; brother Joseph Elphege Melancon, Jr. and wife Paula, nieces Nicole Melancon Fairess, and husband Rick, children Aubrey and Bailey Fairess, Shawn Williams Kleinpeter, children Shay and Anna Kleinpeter, Lisa Melancon Ganucheau and husband Tommy, Brent Melancon and wife Mindy and their families. Carol was preceded in death by her son Scott Joseph Folse, sister Janet Melancon Williams, parents Emma Mae Martinez Melancon and Joseph Elphege Melancon. Carol was a light to all, and her beautiful, joyful spirit will live forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogden Ln, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Pall bearers will be Bradley Joseph Folse, Scott Rountree Folse, Brennan Dexter Folse, Bryan Keith Slade, John Paul Sevin, Chad Rousse, Pat Crawford and Dustin Brewer. Special thanks to Lorraine Brinegar for her loving and devoted care of Carol; as well as the hospice and medical personnel who cared for Carol in her last days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or another charity of choice.
