Calvin Paul Bajon died Saturday, October 29 at 11:50am in the arms of his loving wife at the Baton Rouge General Hospital at the age of 92 surrounded by family and friends. He was born to Elodie and Sidney Bajon on July 15, 1930. A former resident of Duplessis, Louisiana and resident of Baton Rouge. Married to Lena “Teenie” Maggio Bajon. After graduating from Dutchtown High School, he went into the Army Medical Corps where he went to nursing school and work in the operating room. When he got out of the service, he worked at the old Lady of The Lake Hospital where he met the love of his life, Teenie. He was her scrub nurse in the operating room when she had her appendix out. Even though they never knew one another three months later they were walking down the aisle at the St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, August 9, 1951 saying “I do”. He was a very smart and religious man and a man of knowledge. He and Teenie said the rosary together every morning before getting out of bed. He built his house in Duplessis with Teenie as his helper. The only thing he did not do was the brickwork. He carried 44 bundles of roofing on a ladder to the roof. That is why he is suffering with back pain all the time. He retired from the Hansen Disease Hospital in Carville, LA. In 1981, they moved to Baton Rouge from Duplessis. They became members of the St. Louis King of France Church where they became very involved. He became an usher at 8:00am Mass where he opened the church; he, and Teenie set up for the different masses. He helped the priest with all the funerals. He belonged to the Maynard Hurst Knights of Columbus Council #9016 where he won Person of the Year in recognition for his faithful & loyal service to church, community and council. They also won family of the year. During Lent at all the fish fries, you could find him frying the fish and at all all the festivals, he was in the kitchen helping to cook or serve the food. He joined the UCT Council 499 where he served in all the positions twice and also was senior counselor of the Louisiana\Mississippi Council twice. He received the Voris King Award for services to family, church and community, and also the Mose Frank and Troy Henderson Award. He helped with many things at the UCT Hall. They also belonged to the Merry Whirlers Dance Club and always they were the first and last couple on the dance floor, as they loved to dance. He loved to camp and in their motorhome they visited many places all over the United States and Canada. They belonged to many camping clubs and attended many rallies where they made many friends. On August 14, 2021, they celebrated a beautiful 70th wedding anniversary at the UCT Hall.
Preceded in death by parents, sisters, Gloria Brignac, Pearl Arceneaux and Joyce Edmonstson, in-laws, Donia Marie Harrell, Ann Cherry, Tony Maggio and Ross Maggio. Survived by three children, Diane Sweeny (Ted), from Austin TX., Gerald (Sharon) Bajon from Round Rock, TX., and Ronnie Bajon, Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Ron Bajon (Elizabeth), and McKenna Sweeney and two great- grandchildren, Cohen and Kaitlyn Bajon; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be, Gerald Bajon, Steve Maggio, John Cherry, Ron Bajon, Cohen Bajon, Ouide La Haye and McKenna Sweeney. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Gerald Barber.The family want to thank Dr. Caro and Dr. Campesi, of Baton Rouge General Hospital, ER for their care of Calvin along with the ER staff. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Visitation will resume at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Friday, November 4, 2022 from 9:00am-10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Thomas More, 11441 Goodwood Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA at 11 am celebrated by Fr. Wayne Paysse and co-celebrate Fr. Francis Nguyen. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
