Bernard E. Swenson, "Barney", 89, passed away last Tuesday night, August 28, 2012 at The Haven Assisted Living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Barney was born March 26, 1923 in Rochester, Minnesota to the late Walter and Catherine Swenson. Barney attended Louisiana State University prior to enlisting in the air force for World War II. He met his wife, Vergie Gremillion, prior to his deployment overseas. The two were married upon his arrival home after the war. They were married for 62 years. They had one daughter, Sharon, and one granddaughter, Robin. Barney devoted his life to his family; he was patient, loving, loyal and hardworking. Barney was active in the American Legion and the UTC. He served as the AL president in 1994. After his travels during WWII, Barney shared his enthusiasm with his wife and they traveled the world during their retirement. Barney was also an avid car lover and enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Swenson) Rogers, his grand daughter, Robin (Forrest) Walker, and his younger brother, Wayne Swenson.. Barney's life will be celebrated at Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with visitation on Wednesday, September 5, from 10 a.m. until service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park
