Arlene, first born child of Benjamin and Eleanor (Fitch) Folmar, passed away on October 25, 2022.
She was 87 years old and a native of Baton Rouge who lived her last 17 years in St. Francisville and felt blessed for the opportunity to do so.
Relatives and friends are invited to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in St. Francisville, LA on Friday, October 28, 2022 for a visitation beginning at 9:00AM until the funeral mass beginning at 11:00AM. Mass of Christian Burial is to follow at the churches’ cemetery with Father Brad Doyle officiating.
Arlene was a graduate of St. Anthony High School and Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing. She enjoyed a rewarding career in nursing that included working in the Head Nurse positions at Hotel Dieu and De Paul Hospitals in New Orleans. She joined the staff of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in 1969. She was involved in setting up the first Coronary Care Unit in Louisiana and taught courses preparing nurses to work in Critical Care Units. In her 20 years at the Lake, she served as Director of In-Service Education, Assistant Director of Nursing Administration and obtained National Certification as a Quality Assurance Professional in 1988.
Arlene enjoyed life and was always aware of and grateful for the many blessings she enjoyed!
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, James Brian Folmar, and nephew Raphael Cupit.
She is survived by her long-time friend, Kathleen Harris, sister, Shirley Cupit (James), brother, Benjamin Rogers Folmar (Sonia), brother, William Folmar, one niece, five nephews, and many great and great, great nieces and nephews.
