Archie Toler Day, Sr. “Paw”, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Thursday, October, 18, 2018. Archie graduated from Istrouma High School in 1947. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Army National Guard. He then worked at Ethyl Corporation, and after being laid off, he became owner-operator of Day’s Texaco on Plank Rd. for many years. In 1968, he entered into the construction business as owner of Canyon Builders Construction at which time he became a developer, and he built homes in many local subdivisions. He was a charter member and president of the Harrell Bourgeois Hunting Club at Cat Island since 1947. Archie enjoyed traveling in the RV with his wife and his granddaughter, hunting anything he could kill and eat, fishing, attending LSU football and baseball games, and taking annual trips to Talladega for 20 years. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His last years were spent at his camp, “Happiest Day’s”, at False River, with the love of his life, Jeri, his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his friends. A devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Archie is survived by his son, Archie “Scooter” T. Day, Jr. and wife, Charlene “Tootie” Charlet Day; daughter, Debbie Day Maher and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Brooke Beard and husband, Brett and Michele Maddie and husband, Dominique; great-granddaughters, Kristian Maddie, Brelee Marie, and Cambrie Brooke; great-grandson, Jaxson “Jack Rabbit”; sisters, Maude Day and Velma Fischer; sister-in-law, Marilyn Efferson; brother-in-law, Sonny Walsworth and wife, Suzy; and nieces, nephews, and family members. Archie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Jervais “Jeri” Walsworth Day; his parents, Toler and Emma Day; and sister, Emma Bell Day. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, from 11:00AM until the time of funeral services at 2:00PM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family invites anyone who has a special story about Archie to share it as a part of his service.
