"Ann went to her Eternal home November 10, 2016. She was born in St. Louis, MO to Leo G. and Ursula Doerfer Kohl, she relocated to Baton Rouge in 1953 after marrying the love of her life, Donald Dean McDowell, to whom she was married for 49 years until his death on December 22, 2002. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an assistant to her husband in his dental practice until he retired. She served as President of the Louisiana Dental Auxillary in 1968-69. Always as a couple, they enjoyed their time together on the golf course at The Bluffs, traveling and spending time at their beach house in Pensacola. They were active in The Pilgrimage in St. Francisville for many years. She was a long time devoted member of University United Methodist Church and PEO, Chapter W. Her Wednesday afternoons were spent with life-long friends playing bridge. Affectionately known as "Fish" to all who knew her, she is survived by her three children and their spouses, Marty and John Engquist, Donnie and Kahne McDowell, and Jennifer and Dale Ducote, as well as grandchildren: Ryan and John Engquist, Kyle and Donnie McDowell, and Ellis Ducote. She also had six and ½ great grandchildren: Thomas, John, Allie, Hayes, Avery and Alice Engquist. She leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Mary Kohl, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her "Honey", Donald Dean McDowell, daughter Susan Kohl McDowell and granddaughter, Adrienne Case McDowell, sister Mary Virginia King and brother Leo G. "Bud" Kohl. Visitation at University United Methodist Church on Monday, November 14, 2016, from 9:00 am until services at 11:00 am conducted by Reverend Dr. Jane Riecke. Interment will follow in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John, Ryan and John Engquist, Kyle and Donnie McDowell, Dale Ducote and Rick McDowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dream Day Foundation, P.O. Box 40247, Baton Rouge, 70835, or to a charity of your choice.
