He was born on October 15, 1930 to Susie Dyer and Joseph Delta Lafleur in Ville Platte,
Louisiana. Dyer graduated from Ville Platte High in 1946 where he lettered in boxing and he is
also an Eagle Scout. He graduated from LSU in chemistry, BS 1950 and MS 1952. His career
led him to work at Olin, Ormet and Kaiser Aluminum. In 1953 he married Joyce Bergeron who
will greatly miss him. He is also survived by his daughters, Susan (Rick) Parker, Carol (Dave)
Goldsmith, Lucy (Burton) Landry, Patty (David) McCubbin and Janet (Dick Kiser) Lafleur and
son, John Lafleur. Dyer has 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren: Joseph (Elizabeth),
Samuel and Hazel Parker; Thomas (Sarah), and Warren Parker; Sarah (Wayne), Caroline,
Margaret and Annie Losavio; Will (Susan), Riley, Tyler and Evan Goldsmith; Davy (Emily)
Goldsmith; Matt (Stephanie) Landry; Alison (Ryan), Michael and Lydia Luck, Martha Landry
(Ben Bailey); Tricia (Blake), Joy and Maddie Durham; and Becca McCubbin. He also had two
brothers J.D. Lafleur, Jr. and Steve Lafleur. Dyer loved his family deeply and was a devout
Catholic. He also enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, growing and showing camelias,
woodworking, riding his bike and ushering at church.
Services will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church Thursday, April 21. Visitation starts 9:30 with a
rosary at 10:15. Mass begins at 11:00 followed by burial at Roselawn Cemetery.
