Rocco "Rocky" Fizzano, 68, of Bassett, VA, died on February 1, 2022 at home with his family. Rocky was born on June 10, 1953 in Chester, PA. He has been married to Carol Kroll Fizzano for 48 years together where they raised 4 children and have loved spoiling their 6 grandchildren.
Rocky is survived by his wife, Carol Kroll Fizzano, his children Rocky (Amber) Fizzano, Kevin (Brandy) Fizzano, Nicole (Michael) Westman, Matthew (Tenille) Fizzano, his six grandchildren Jordan, Rocky, Madeline, Carlena, Elena and Bella. He is also survived by his mother Mary Alice Fizzano, his brothers James and Perry Fizzano, his sister Pati (Wes) Epae and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Rocco Fizzano.
Rocky was a devoted husband, father and PopPop. He loved his grandkids and enjoyed spending his evening and weekends watching them grow and participate in their sports.
Rocky was a man of many talents and you could go to him for absolutely anything. If he did not know how to build or fix , it, he would figure it out. He was happy to pass his knowledge onto others and would take the time to make sure you had what you needed and knew what to do. Rocky was well versed on so many topics. His knowledge on many topics was unbelievable. Rocky's ability to engage anyone he met in conversation and put them at ease was like no other.
Through the years he taught Sunday School at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, was involved with the Knights of Columbus, 4¬H, the Sanville Ruritan Club, coached baseball and most recently was a member of the Southside Woodturners. His involvement with the Boy Scouts lead to him earning the Silver Beaver Award. This is a high honor and is awarded to individuals who exhibit exceptional character and have provided distinguished service within the council.
He worked at Eastman as an engineer for 41 years. He played a role in many discoveries and inventions that we are still using today.
Even in death, he is continuing his tradition of giving and selflessness. Rocky made the decision to donate his tumor and tissue to the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for research. His hope was that more light can be shed on Leiomyosarcoma and ways to treat the rare form of cancer.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 5-8 at Collins-McKee-Stone funeral home in Bassett. A memorial service will be held at 9:30am on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Martinsville. Burial will be private.
