On Monday, August 28, 2017, Jennie Rebecca (Ross Martin) Smith was set free and now resides with her heavenly father. She was born May 10, 1924 to John Harden and Mattie Lee Ross. She attended the Henry County Training School.
She was married to Dewey H. Smith from June 1951, who preceded her death for 22 years. Six sisters preceded her in death - Irene Ross, Jessie Gladden, Evelyn Hairston, Louise Pleasant, Annie Sledd, and Ada Turner and three brothers - T.J., Fletcher, and Letcher Ross. She was also preceded in death by one step-son, Kenneth Smith.
She was a faithful member of Oak Hill Baptist church. Her service to the church and community included singing in the choir, serving on the Missionary and Usher Boards and attending Sunday School and Bible Study. She was a pillar of the community always ready to provide a meal to anyone in need. In fact her favorite thing to do was have her “Christmas Party” for the whole community. All she wanted was for each person to sign her guest book.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters - Margret Martin Brown, Mitchellville, MD. and Rebecca Ann Taylor (Tyrone), Brown Summit, NC, and her beloved brother, George Raymond Ross, Bassett, VA.; one grand daughter, Linda and three grandsons and their spouses Glen (Veronica), Donny (Maqueda) and Tony (Gaylynn); six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
