Elsie Shockley Martin

Mrs. Elsie Shockley Martin, age 77 of Danville, VA., passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019. Mrs. Martin was born on December 18, 1941 in Henry County, VA. to the late Merlin S. Shockley and Maggie E. Shockley.
Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her husband Reverend Daniel Lee Martin, her grandson Denny R. Clark, Jr., as well as her siblings; Reverend Merlin S. Shockley, Jr., Ulus “Shock” Shockley, Faye Shockley Taylor (Spouse still living Edward Stacy Taylor), Billy G. Shockley (Spouse still living Phyllis Shockley)
Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughters Kim M. Meadows (Vern), and Carmen M. Spencer (D.J.), Grandchildren; Lori C. Moore (Shannon), Daniel M. Clark (Caitlin, who is expecting), Sophia K. Spencer, Chris Meadows, Chelsea Moss and Jacob Almashy, Great Grandchildren; Aiden Rivero, Delaney Moore, Emily Moore, Colin Moore and Jacob Moss, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Despite contracting polio age three, she attended school in Fieldale-Collinsville, worked a number of years at Fieldcrest as a seamstress, lived independently while raising her two girls, and she also drove. She loved sewing and playing piano. She played piano on occasion in her Church. She made curtains, quilts, and numerous other crafts. She loved the Lord and was an avid supporter and media member of Swaggart Ministries, which became her church at home. She had green thumb and was an active gardener. She loved her family and was loved by her family . She was affectionately known as G by the Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11:00 am at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
