Peoria – Tammy Renee Spenny, 48, of Peoria, passed away at 4:46 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Peoria on June 8, 1972, a daughter of Harold D. and Juanita C. (Schick) Vires. Tammy married Matthew Spenny on June 25, 1994 in Peoria; he survives.
Also surviving are her daughters, Kaylee and Savannah Spenny, both of Peoria; her parents of Peoria; brother, Doug (Holly) Vires of Bement; and sister, Tracy (Jon) Strelak of Indianapolis, IN.
Tammy is an incredible daughter, wife, mother, sister, nurse, friend, runner, karate black belt, coach, back-flipper and ax-thower. :) She graduated from Limestone Community High School in 1990 and from Methodist School of Nursing. She has a Master’s degree in Nursing and taught at Methodist College of Nursing. She has been a passionate bedside nurse for 26 years working in ICU and Surgical services. She is beloved by her work family at Unity Point Proctor. Tammy found time to coach middle school track and cheer at Hollis. She has spent her free time volunteering and working in the mission field with Northwoods Community Church. Her most favorite roles as a wife and devoted mother to her two daughters, Kaylee and Savanah. She was often at cheer competitions or cheering for anything her girls are involved in. Tammy and her husband Matt celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary this year.
Tammy’s family would like to thank the team of amazing nurses and friends who came to her side to care for her as she made her transition to her heavenly home.
Tammy’s celebration of life gathering will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Tammy’s memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center or the Spenny Family GoFundMe.
