Eleanor Pauline Reichert Wetterauer, 91, of Peoria, Illinois passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 16, 2024. Eleanor was born to German immigrant parents Christian and Rosa Traub Reichert. She married Robert Daniel Wetterauer on January 30, 1955 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2011.
Eleanor is survived by her two daughters, Diana (Fred) Monroe of Peoria and Susan Moore of Hanna City; two sons, Steven (Danette) of Washington, Illinois and John of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Eric Monroe, Benjamin Moore, Brandon Monroe, Lindsay Wetterauer Still, Alyssa Wetterauer McBurney, Nowell Moore, Natalie Wetterauer Brown, Valarie Wetterauer Saddoris; twenty-three great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, brother Walter Reichert, and son-in-law James Moore.
Eleanor graduated from Peoria High School in May 1951 and attended Bradley University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. In addition to her most important role as a wife and mother, Eleanor worked at her parent’s grocery store Reichert’s Market until it closed and later at Raber Packing Company. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Gospel Choir, served on the Mission Quilt Society, WELCA, adult Sunday School and Bible Study, and as the Assistant Treasurer for several years.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21st at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bartonville where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Michael Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Bartonville.
Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
In addition to her faith in the Lord, Eleanor was taught at a young age the importance of serving others and it was evident throughout her life. Eleanor will be remembered for her inner strength, determination, gentle spirit, and infectious smile.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church-Bartonville, St. Jude, or Special Olympics.
