Dorothy Jean (Kirkham) Stuaan, 86, of Hanna City, Illinois, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at Carle Health Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was born on September 7, 1937, in Dwight, Illinois, to Roscoe and Julia (Burke) Kirkham. On February 5, 1955, Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Stuaan, in Peoria, Illinois; he passed away November 26, 2018.
Surviving are Dorothy and Ray’s four children, Lori (Ron) Riekena of Peoria, Illinois, Cindy (Steve) Rilling of Huber Heights, Ohio, Dave (Kim) Stuaan of Bushnell, Illinois, and Jeanie (Scott) Jones of Morton, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Josh (Holly) Riekena, Tyler (Courtney) Riekena, Phillip Rosenbohm, Robert (Megan) Stanfield, Nathan (Megan) Stanfield, Abbi (Steve) Sothmann, Zach (Kelly) Stuaan, Luke (Alecia) Stuaan, Arin (Karl) Nash, Paige (Chris) Copple, and Haley Varnes; and 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Joanne Moore, her best friend since childhood. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, brothers, Ralph Kirkham and Louis Kirkham, and sister, Frances Mitchler.
Dorothy worked at the Peoria Southside Mission in administrative offices on Laramie Street and later as a volunteer in the Benevolence Center. For over 25 years, she served the neighbors of the community and provided hope to those in need, warmly welcoming everyone through the front doors with encouragement.
As a member of the Hanna City Presbyterian Church, Dorothy was a devout follower of Christ, studying the Word daily. Friendship was also an important pillar in her life, and she cherished time with members of the Club, Red Hat Society, Bible studies, and those near and far who she kept close in prayer.
Dorothy will be remembered by the support and love she afforded her family and friends, her determined pursuit of good bargains while shopping, and how joyfully she shared her faith.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Hanna City Presbyterian Church in Hanna City, officiated by Pastor David Keithley and Pastor Jay Johnson. Visitation will also be held at the church, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and lasting until the start of services. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville.
